My Love, the City of Ahn Jung-geun
Hello, I’m Kim Yeonhwa. I live in Harbin, the Ice City.
It is famous for the coldest winter in China.
It’s also famous for the largest ice and snow show in the world.
To many Korean-Chinese, Harbin is the city of Ahn Jung-geun.
It has two special halls for this hero.
The old one is in the Joseon Art Museum, and the new one is in Harbin Station.
In the new hall, you can see his photos and famous writings.
The new hall has a special clock.
Do you see the clock on the outside of the building?
What time is it? It’s 9:30.
The hands don’t move because the clock tells the time of his action.
When I think of Ahn Jung-geun, I read Yun Dong-ju’s Counting the Stars at Night.
It is full of love for Korea, and I like it a lot.
They are so far away,
As the stars are.
And Mother,
You are far away in Bukgando.
You know what? Bukgando is not far from Harbin, and Yun Dong-ju lived there when he was young.
I’m proud that I was born in Bukgando.
I’m also proud that I live in Harbin, the city of Ahn Jung-geun.
