Why does an elephant walk with heavy steps?

When an elephant wants to talk to other elephants, it hits the ground with its feet.

Why in the world?

An elephant has special foot pads and can feel shaking from far away.

So, when an elephant sends a thump, other elephants can get the message from far away.

2.
Why does this deep-sea fish have a rod on its head?

This fish lives in the deep sea.

It has a shining rod on its head.
Why in the world?

There are small living things on the rod, and light comes from them.

When they shine, small sea animals come close to the rod and become food for the fish!

The fish uses this shine in the dark special effect!

Shine on, Mr. Fish!

3.
Why does an owl move its face feathers?

When an owl hears something, it moves its face feathers.
Why in the world?

An owl’s face feathers are like a radar dish.

The owl moves them to hear sounds clearly.

You know what?

Sound scientists are studying owls’ feathers.

They want to make new radar dishes and hearing aids!
