Our class had a day tour of the British Museum last week.

In Room 67, there were old Korean vases, coins, paintings, and many other interesting things.

67번 전시실에는 오래된 한국의 도자기, 동전, 그림과 다른 많은 흥미로운 것들이 있었어요. 

 

I also saw a sarangbang, a traditional Korean study room.

저는 한국 전통 서재인 사랑방도 봤어요. 

 

There was not enough time, so I plan to go back next weekend.

시간이 충분하지 않았고, 그래서 저는 다음 주말에 다시 갈 계획이에요.

Wonderful Whales: Meet the Big Friends in the Sea

놀라운 고래들: 바다에 사는 덩치가 큰 친구들을 만나 봅시다.

Whales live in the water.

고래는 물속에서 삽니다. 

 

They look and swim like fish, but they aren’t fish at all.

고래가 물고기처럼 보이고 헤엄치지만, 전혀 물고기가 아닙니다. 

 

Whales can’t stay under the water all the time.

고래는 항상 물속에서 지낼 수는 없습니다. 

 

They can’t breathe underwater, so they come up to the surface for air from time to time.

고래는 물속에서 숨을 쉴 수 없기 때문에 이따금씩 숨을 쉬려고 수면으로 올라옵니다. 

 

Whales make sounds, and they communicate with these sounds.

고래는 소리를 내고, 이 소리로 의사소통을 합니다. 

 

A whale’s call can reach 188 decibels, and other whales can hear it from hundreds of kilometers away.

고래의 소리는 188dB(데시벨)에 이를 수 있어서, 수백 킬로미터 떨어진 곳에서도 다른 고래들이 이 소리를 들을 수 있습니다. 

 

Whales are very big animals.

고래는 덩치가 매우 큰 동물입니다. 

 

A blue whale’s tongue is the size of elephant, and its heart is the size of a small car.

흰긴수염고래의 혀는 코끼리만한 크기이며, 심장은 작은 자동차만한 크기입니다. 

 

One large blue whale in the Antarctic Ocean was 30.5 meters long and weighed around 150 tons.

남극해의 덩치가 큰 어떤 흰긴수염고래는 길이가 30.5m였으며, 무게는 약 150t이었습니다. 

 

Even a baby blue whale is big.

심지어 새끼 흰긴수염고래도 큽니다. 

 

It weighs around one ton at birth.

새끼 흰긴수염고래는 태어날 때의 무게가 약 1t입니다. 

 

Whales are very useful animals.

고래는 매우 유용한 동물입니다. 

 

When they come up to breathe, they sometimes poop.

숨을 쉬러 올라올 때 그들은 가끔 대변을 봅니다. 

 

Their poop becomes food for sea animals near the surface.

그들의 대변은 수면 근처에 있는 해양 동물들의 먹이가 됩니다. 

 

Whales are also useful for animals in the deep sea.

고래는 심해에 있는 동물들에게도 쓸모가 있습니다. 

 

The body of a dead whale falls deep down into the sea.

죽은 고래의 사체는 바다 깊이 가라앉습니다. 

 

This is a whale fall.

이것이 whale fall(고래 사체)입니다. 

 

It becomes food for many fish there.

이것은 거기에 있는 많은 물고기들에게 먹이가 됩니다.
