남극에서 쓴 일기

Mr. Nam spent a year in Antarctica.

남 씨는 남극에서 일 년을 보냈다. 

 

He worked as a cook at Antarctic Jang Bogo Station.

그는 남극장보고과학기지에서 조리사로 일했다. 

 

He recorded his life there in his diary.

그는 그곳에서의 생활을 일기에 기록했다.

 

March 21

3월 21일 

There is a garden in the station.

기지 안에는 정원이 있다. 

 

Today I picked some vegetables and made bibimbap for lunch.

오늘 나는 채소를 따다가 점심으로 비빔밥을 만들었다. 

 

Everyone liked it very much.

모두가 비빔밥을 무척 좋아했다. 

 

I enjoy cooking for the people here.

나는 이곳에 있는 사람들을 위해 요리하는 것이 즐겁다. 

 

May 30

5월 30일 

The polar night goes on.

극야가 계속된다. 

 

The moon and the stars are always in the sky.

달과 별이 항상 하늘에 떠 있다. 

 

I miss the sun.

나는 해가 그립다. 

 

It is really cold, but I do not catch a cold.

정말 춥지만, 난 감기에 걸리지 않는다. 

 

Viruses cannot live here.

여기에서는 바이러스가 살 수 없다.

 

June 21

6월 21일 

Today was Mid-Winter Day.

오늘은 동지였다. 

 

It is a big holiday in Antarctica.

남극에서는 큰 기념일이다. 

 

We got many e-cards from other stations.

우리는 다른 기지로부터 많은 전자 카드를 받았다. 

 

I cooked patjuk for dinner.

나는 저녁으로 팥죽을 만들었다. 

 

We wished each other good luck.

우리는 서로에게 행운을 빌어 주었다. 

 

July 10

7월 10일 

Last night I ate fresh fruit in a dream.

지난밤 나는 꿈에서 신선한 과일을 먹었다. 

 

Sadly, that dream did not come true.

슬프게도 그 꿈은 이루어지지 않았다. 

 

At about noon, colorful lights danced across the sky.

정오 무렵, 형형색색의 빛이 하늘을 가로질러 춤을 추었다. 

 

I took pictures of the auroras.

나는 오로라 사진을 찍었다.

 

August 15

8월 15일 

The sun finally returned.

마침내 해가 돌아왔다. 

 

Everyone watched the sunrise and shouted with joy.

모든 사람들이 해돋이를 보았고 기쁨으로 환호했다. 

 

In the afternoon, the scientists went out to the sea.

오후에 과학자들이 바다에 나갔다. 

 

They study sea animals in Antarctica.

그들은 남극에 사는 해양 동물을 연구한다. 

 

Working outside is very hard for the people here.

바깥에서 일하는 것은 여기 사람들에게 무척 힘들다.

 

September 20

9월 20일 

Someone saw a Weddell seal.

어떤 사람이 웨들 해표를 보았다. 

 

It means the end of the long winter months.

그것은 긴 겨울이 끝났다는 것을 의미한다. 

 

It also means we will soon have visitors to the station.

또한 기지에 곧 방문객이 올 것이라는 걸 의미한다. 

 

The station will not be a lonely place any more.

기지는 더 이상 외로운 곳이 아닐 것이다. 

 

I CANNOT WAIT!

나는 무척 기대된다! 

 

November 17

11월 17일 

A helicopter brought a few people to the station.

헬리콥터를 타고 기지에 사람들이 몇 명 왔다. 

 

I got some bananas from them.

나는 그들에게 바나나를 받았다. 

 

What a wonderful gift!

얼마나 멋진 선물인지! 

 

I cooked ramyeon for them, and they liked it very much.

나는 그들에게 라면을 끓여 주었고, 그들은 라면을 매우 좋아했다. 

 

I go home in two months.

나는 두 달 후에 집에 간다. 

 

I’m going to eat bananas every day.

나는 매일 바나나를 먹을 거다.
