Go, Team!

우리 팀, 힘내!

The game was over. The junior team won it, and all the players were happy.

경기는 끝났다. 주니어 팀은 경기에서 승리했고, 모든 선수들이 행복했다.

 

While they were in the locker room, the coach handed every boy a card.

그들이 로커 룸에 있는 동안, 코치가 모든 소년들에게 카드 한 장씩을 건네주었다.

 

It had a list of the players on the junior team.

그 카드는 주니어 팀의 선수들의 명단을 담고 있었다.

 

“As you all know, we have an opening for a player on the senior team,” said the coach.

“모두 알고 있듯이, 우리는 시니어 팀 선수 자리에 하나가 비어 있어.” 코치가 말했다.

 

“Why don’t you pick a player for the team?

“여러분들이 시니어 팀에 들어갈 선수를 뽑아 보는 것이 어떨까?

 

Check one name on the list.”

명단 위의 이름 하나에 체크 표시를 해 주게.”

 

Scottie looked at the list and saw his name.

Scottie는 명단을 보았고 자신의 이름을 보았다.

 

Then he sighed and put a check next to Michael’s name.

그리고는 한숨을 쉰 후 Michael의 이름 옆에 체크 표시를 하였다.

 

He couldn’t deny that Michael was good enough for the senior team.

그는 Michael이 시니어 팀에 충분이 훌륭하다는 것을 부인할 수 없었다.

 

The coach collected every card from the boys.

코치가 소년들로부터 모든 카드를 거두었다.

 

Everyone’s hopes were high.

모든 선수들의 바람은 높았다.

 

They all wanted to be on the senior team.

그들은 모두 시니어 팀에 들어가기를 원했다.

 

The coach looked up and said, “Well, it’s a tie between Michael and Scottie.”

코치가 올려다보고 말했다. “흠, Michael과 Scottie가 동점이구나.”

 

Scottie’s heart leaped.

Scottie의 심장이 뛰었다.

 

He was surprised that he was tied with Michael.

그는 자기가 Michael과 동점이 되어 놀라웠다.

 

“Well,” said the coach, “both are wonderful enough for the senior team, and it’s hard to pick just one player.

“흠,“ 코치가 말했다. “둘 다 시니어 팀에 들어가기에 충분히 훌륭하고, 단 한 명의 선수를 선정하는 것은 어려운 일이야.

 

But I have to, so I’ll pick Scottie.”

그러나 나는 선정해야 하기에, Scottie를 뽑겠어.”

 

Then the coach walked over to Scottie and said, “Congratulations!”

그리고 코치가 Scottie에게 걸어와서 말했다. “축하해!”

 

“Thank you, but Michael is such a good shot.

“감사합니다, 그러나 Michael은 훌륭한 골잡이에요.

 

He makes the most baskets,” said Scottie.

Michael이 득점을 가장 많이 하고 있어요.” Scottie가 말했다.

 

“Of course, he does,” said the coach.

“물론, Michael이 그렇지,” 코치가 말했다.

 

“But he shoots whether there’s a player in a better position or not.

“그러나 Michael은 더 나은 위치에 선수가 있든 없든, 슛을 쏴.

 

It’s important to play for the team!

팀을 위해 경기하는 것이 중요해!

 

Don’t worry. I know a good player when I see one.”

걱정 마. 나는 보면 좋은 선수인지 안단다.”

 

Scottie walked out of the room.

Scottie는 방 밖으로 걸어 나갔다.

 

He felt like giving a loud and happy shout.

그는 크고 기쁜 소리를 지르고 싶은 마음이었다.

 

Then he saw Michael.

그때 그는 Michael을 보았다.

 

Suddenly Scottie felt sorry for him.

갑자기 Scottie는 그에게 미안한 감정이 들었다.

 

“I guess you don’t care, but I picked you for the senior team,” said Scottie.

“나는 네가 신경 쓰지 않으리라 추측하지만, 나는 시니어 팀에 너를 뽑았어.”라고 Scottie가 말했다.

 

Michael smiled. “You know what? I picked YOU.”

Michael이 미소 지었다. “너 그거 아니? 나는 너를 뽑았어.”

 

Scottie was surprised. “You did?”

Scottie가 놀랐다. “네가 그랬어?”

 

“Yeah. You always do your best, and you’re a team player.

“응. 너는 항상 최선을 다해, 그리고 너는 팀플레이어야.

 

Today you played for the team, and we won the game. Congratulations!”

오늘 너는 팀을 위해 경기했고, 우리는 게임에서 이겼는걸. 축하해!”
