W: Today we are meeting Korean Waves, the winner of this year’s K-pop Dance Festival in London.

여: 오늘 우리는 런던에서 열린 케이팝 댄스 페스티벌의 우승자 Korean Waves를 만납니다.

 

Here is John, the leader of the dance team.

여기, 댄스 팀의 리더 John이 있습니다.

 

W: Would you please tell us about the special features of your dance?

여: 당신 댄스 팀 춤의 특별한 특징에 대해서 말씀해 주시겠어요?

 

M: Sure. We love the hot beat of K-pop.

남: 물론이죠. 저희는 케이팝의 신나는 박자를 좋아합니다.

 

We love the soft moves of traditional Korean dances, too.

그리고 저희는 한국 전통 춤의 부드러운 동작도 좋아합니다.

 

We want to put them together and create rhythmic waves

저희는 이 두 가지를 조합하여 율동적인 움직임을 만들어 내고 싶습니다.

 

W: You rap in Korean. Do you speak the language?

여: 당신은 한국어로 랩을 하죠. 한국어를 할 수 있나요?

 

M: Yes, but my Korean is not very good.

남: 네, 하지만 제 한국어 실력은 좋지 않아요.

 

I’m studying it at the Korean Cultural Centre UK, but it’s not easy.

저는 영국의 한국문화원에서 한국어를 공부하고 있어요. 하지만 쉽지 않네요.

 

W: You must be interested in not only Korean music but also the Korean language.

여: 당신은 한국 음악뿐만 아니라 한국어에도 관심이 있는 게 틀림없군요.

 

M: You bet! You know what?

남: 네, 당신 말이 맞아요! 그거 알아요?

 

The centre had a special week on famous Westerners in the Korean Empire last month.

한국문화원에서 지난달에 대한제국에서의 유명한 서양인들에 대한 특별 주간을 가졌어요.

 

One of them was Ernest Bethell.

그들 중 한 명이 바로 Ernest Bethell이었죠.

 

W: Ernest Bethell had a deep love for Korea and Korean culture, didn’t he?

여: Ernest Bethell은 한국과 한국 문화를 깊이 사랑했던 사람이었죠, 그렇지 않나요?

 

M: Yes. He was born in Bristol, not far from here.

남: 맞아요. 그는 여기에서 멀지 않은 Bristol에서 태어났어요.

 

I learned that he founded Daehan Maeil Sinbo, a newspaper in Korean and English.

저는 그가 한국어와 영어로 발간되는 신문, 대한매일신보를 설립했다고 배웠어요.

 

He loved the Korean language and culture, and so do I.

그는 한국어와 한국 문화를 사랑했어요. 저도 그래요.

 

W: That’s cool! You’re going to come to Korea for the final round, aren’t you?

여: 멋지네요! 결승전을 위해서 한국에 오시죠, 그렇지 않나요?

 

M: Absolutely! We’re now polishing our moves.

남: 물론이죠! 요즈음 저희는 동작을 다듬고 있어요.

 

We are looking forward to the final round, visiting the country, and enjoying the hot energy of K-pop and K-food.

저희는 결승전, 한국 방문, 그리고 한국 방문 동안 즐길 케이팝의 뜨거운 열기와 한국 음식을 매우 기대하고 있어요.

 

W: I wish you good luck! What places do you want to visit?

여: 행운을 빌어요! 한국에서 어떤 장소를 방문해 보고 싶나요?

 

M: My first stop will be Insa-dong.

남: 첫 번째 행선지는 인사동이 될 거예요.

 

I’ve heard that there are many fun activities to do there and lots of street food to enjoy.

그곳에는 할 수 있는 많은 재미있는 활동들이 있고 즐길 수 있는 길거리 음식도 많다고 들었어요.

 

I’d like to go on a hanbok photo shoot and try tteokbokki.

저는 한복을 입고 사진 촬영을 하고 싶고 떡볶이도 먹어 보고 싶어요.

 

Then I hope to stop by Namdaemun Market.

그러고 나서 저는 남대문 시장에 들르고 싶어요.

 

I want to pick up character socks and popular Korean goods for my sister.

저는 그곳에서 제 여동생에게 줄 캐릭터 양말과 인기 있는 한국 상품을 사고 싶어요.

 

They must have a wide selection there.

그곳에는 다양한 종류의 상품들이 틀림없이 있을 거예요.

 

W: I hope you find some nice ones. Thank you for being with us today.

여: 좋은 것들을 찾길 바라요. 오늘 저희와 함께해 주셔서 감사합니다.
