갯벌, 자연의 선물

Mudflats are large areas of muddy land at the seaside.

갯벌은 바닷가에 진흙이 있는 넓은 지역이다. 

 

They appear and disappear with every tide.

갯벌은 조수와 함께 나타나고 사라진다. 

 

During low tides, they show up, and during high tides, they are covered by the sea.

썰물 동안에는 갯벌이 드러나고, 밀물 동안에 갯벌은 바다에 덮인다. 

 

Mudflats help sea creatures, people, and the Earth in many ways.

갯벌은 바다 생물과 사람과 지구를 많은 방면에서 돕는다. 

 

It is important to understand the roles of mudflats. Let’s see what they do.

갯벌의 역할을 이해하는 것은 중요하다. 갯벌이 무엇을 하는지 살펴보자.

 

Mudflats are home to a lot of living things at the seaside.

갯벌은 바닷가에 있는 많은 생명체에게 집이다. 

 

Not only very small living things like plankton but also crabs and fish live there.

플랑크톤처럼 작은 생명체들뿐만 아니라 게와 물고기도 거기에 산다. 

 

Mudflats provide various types of food for them.

갯벌은 다양한 종류의 먹이를 그들에게 제공한다. 

 

Also, many birds eat food there.

또한 많은 새들이 거기서 먹이를 먹는다. 

 

Crab: Mudflats are my home sweet home.

게: 갯벌은 나의 행복한 집이에요.

People who live near mudflat areas make a living by catching fish and other sea animals nearby.

갯벌에서 사람들은 진흙 미끄럼틀 타기나 보디 페인팅 같은 재미있는 활동들을 즐길 수 있다. 

 

They can also watch a large number of birds that feed on the sea animals there.

그들은 또한 거기에서 바다 동물들을 먹는 수많은 새들을 관찰할 수도 있다.

Also, mudflats filter water that flows from the land into the sea.

또한 갯벌은 육지로부터 바다로 흘러가는 물을 걸러 낸다. 

 

They remove bad things in the water before it enters the sea.

갯벌은 물이 바다에 들어가기 전에 물속에 있는 나쁜 것들을 제거한다. 

 

Thanks to mudflats, the water that reaches the sea is clean.

갯벌 덕분에 바다에 도달하는 물은 깨끗하다. 

 

Mudflats work as the Earth’s lungs.

갯벌은 지구의 폐 역할을 한다. 

 

They produce a huge volume of oxygen that is necessary for life on the Earth.

그곳은 지구상의 생명체에게 필요한 거대한 양의 산소를 생산한다.

지구: 갯벌은 나를 건강하고 깨끗하게 유지해 줘요. 

 

Mudflats are wonderful places, aren’t they?

갯벌은 멋진 장소이다, 그렇지 않은가? 

 

They are a gift from nature to living things on the Earth.

그곳은 자연이 지구상의 생물들에게 준 선물이다. 

 

For all these reasons, it is necessary to protect mudflats.
