One Happy Day in 2050

2050년 어느 행복한 날

On one Saturday in 2050, Amy's getting ready to go out for a family lunch to celebrate her 17th birthday.

2050년 어느 토요일에 Amy는 자신의 17번째 생일을 축하하기 위해 가족과 함께 점심 식사를 하러 나갈 준비를 하고 있다.

 

Excitedly, she gets into a self-driving car with her parents and her little brother Josh.

그녀는 신이 나서 부모님과 어린 남동생 Josh와 자율 주행 차에 탑승한다.

 

"I didn't think we'd have to wait in line," Josh complains.

Josh는 “줄을 서 기다려야 할 거라고는 생각하지 않았는데.”라고 불평한다.

 

"This place is always busy, but you won't regret waiting," Mom says.

“이곳은 항상 손님이 많지만 기다린 것을 후회하지는 않을 거야.”라고 엄마가 말한다.

 

The line moves along smoothly, and before long, Amy's family steps through the door of the Old Kitchen.

줄은 순조롭게 움직이고, 머지않아 Amy의 가족은 Old Kitchen의 문을 통과한다.

 

Josh immediately forgets his recent annoyance as he sees restaurant servers carrying plates that smell of delicious food.

Josh는 식당 종업원들이 맛있는 음식 냄새가 나는 접시를 나르는 것을 보자 즉시 방금 전의 짜증을 잊는다.

 

"Wow, this is nice. We're in a place where we are served by people, not robots.

“와, 여기 좋은데요. 우리는 로봇이 아니라 사람이 접대하는 곳에 있네요.

 

I feel more warmly treated when served by a human," says Amy.

저는 사람이 접대할 때 더 따뜻한 대접을 받는다고 느껴져요.”라고 Amy가 말한다.

 

"Hello? May I take your orders?" a waiter asks politely.

웨이터가 “안녕하세요? 주문하시겠어요?”라고 공손하게 묻는다.

 

"What's today's special?" asks Mom.

“오늘의 특선 요리는 뭐죠?”라고 엄마가 묻는다.

 

"Well, today's special is ant fried rice.

“음, 오늘의 특선 요리는 개미 볶음밥입니다.

 

It's said to be high in protein and low in fat."

단백질이 많고 지방은 적다고 알려져 있죠.”

 

"OK, we'll have two specials," says Mom.

“좋아요, 특선 요리 둘을 주세요.”라고 엄마는 말한다.

 

"Why don't we order some beef dishes as well?" asks Mom.

“소고기 요리도 주문하는 게 어떨까?”라고 엄마가 묻는다.

 

"But Mom, beef is way too expensive, isn't it?" Amy says with concern in her voice.

“하지만 엄마, 소고기는 너무 비싸잖아요, 그렇지 않아요?”라고 Amy는 걱정 섞인 목소리로 말한다.

 

"I know, but today is special. I really miss the good old days when beef was reasonably priced," says Mom.

“나도 알아. 하지만 오늘은 특별하잖니. 소고기가 적당한 가격이었던 예전의 좋은 시절이 정말 그립구나.”라고 엄마가 말한다.

 

"Why is beef so expensive?" asks Josh with a puzzled look.

Josh는 어리둥절한 표정으로 “소고기가 왜 그렇게 비싸요?”라고 묻는다.

 

"Raising cows is costly because global warming has resulted in a lack of natural resources," Dad explains.

“지구온난화의 결과로 천연자원이 부족해져서 소를 키우는 것은 비용이 많이 든단다.”라고 아빠가 설명한다.

 

"I can't imagine the old days when people ate beef as often as we eat insects today.

“저는 사람들이 오늘날 우리가 곤충을 먹는 것만큼 자주 소고기를 먹었다는 예전을 상상할 수 없어요.

 

But Why complain? I like insect dishes," cheerfully replies Josh.

하지만 왜 불평을 하죠? 전 곤충 음식이 좋은데.”라고 Josh가 명랑하게 대답한다.

 

As Mom says, waiting in line to dine at the Old Kitchen pays off.

엄마가 말한 것처럼, Old Kitchen에서 식사하기 위해 줄을 서 기다리는 것은 가치가 있다.
