명백한 것에 의문을 가져라

 

Copernicus: Today, I’m going to tell you an important fact: Earth is not the center of the universe.

코페르니쿠스: 오늘, 저는 여러분에게 중요한 사실을 말씀드릴 겁니다. 지구는 우주의 중심이 아닙니다.

 

M1: What are you talking about, Copernicus?

남자1: 무슨 얘기를 하는 거예요, 코페르니쿠스?

 

W: Earth is the center, and the sun goes around it!

여자: 지구가 중심이고, 태양이 그 주위를 돈답니다!

 

Copernicus: No, we were wrong. Earth goes around the sun.

코페르니쿠스: 아뇨, 우리가 틀렸어요. 지구가 태양의 주위를 돌아요.

 

M2: No way!

남자2: 절대 아니에요!

 

M3: Get out of here!

남자3: 여기서 나가요!

 

“Today, I’m going to talk about new discoveries.”

“오늘, 저는 새로운 발견에 대해 이야기할 거예요.”

 

Until the 16th century, the center of the universe was Earth.

16세기까지, 우주의 중심은 지구였다.

 

This was obvious, and everyone believed it.

이것은 명백했고, 모든 사람들이 그것을 믿었다.

 

But Copernicus asked, "Is it really true?"

하지만 코페르니쿠스가 “그것은 정말 사실일까?”라고 물었다.

 

His question started a big change.

그의 질문은 커다란 변화를 시작시켰다.

 

Today, Earth isn't the center of the universe anymore.

This story teaches us an important lesson.

We should always question obvious things.

There are other examples in history.

In the past, humans couldn't travel through the air.

과거에, 인간은 하늘을 여행할 수 없었다.

 

But some people began to wonder, "Can we travel through the air?"

하지만 몇몇 사람들은 “우리가 하늘을 여행할 수 있을까?”라고 궁금해하기 시작했다.

 

The Wright brothers also asked this question, and they finally made an airplane.

라이트 형제 역시 이 질문을 던졌고, 그리고 그들은 마침내 비행기를 만들었다.

 

The same went for the submarine.

같은 것이 잠수함에도 해당되었다.

 

Traveling under the water looked impossible, but people finally found a way.

물 속을 여행하는 것은 불가능해 보였지만, 사람들은 마침내 방법을 찾아냈다.

 

It's still going on today.

오늘날에도 여전히 그러한 일은 계속되고 있다.

 

Where does meat come from?

고기는 어디에서 오는가?

 

Of course, it comes from animals.

물론, 그것은 동물에게서 온다.

 

But some scientists wanted to get meat in a different way.

하지만 몇몇 과학자들은 다른 방법으로 고기를 얻고 싶어 했다.

 

"How about plants?" they wondered.

They used beans and peas, and they made new, healthy "meat."

Surprisingly, it doesn't taste like beans or peas.
