Painting Sounds

소리를 그리기

Wassily was a good boy.

바실리는 착한 소년이었다. 

 

He loved music and art.

그는 음악과 미술을 사랑했다. 

 

One day, he received a box of paints.

어느 날, 그는 물감 한 상자를 받았다. 

 

When he started mixing the colors, Wassily heard some strange sounds.

그가 색깔을 섞기 시작했을 때, 바실리는 어떤 이상한 소리를 들었다. 

 

"The colors are making sounds!" he shouted.

“색깔들이 소리를 내고 있어!”라고 그는 소리쳤다. 

 

Then he tried to paint the sounds of the colors.

그러고 나서 그는 색깔들이 내는 소리를 그리려고 했다.

 

Wassily grew up, and he went to college to study law.

바실리는 자랐고, 법학을 공부하기 위해 그는 대학에 갔다. 

 

But when he was 30, an opera changed his life.

그런데 그가 서른 살이었을 때, 한 오페라가 그의 인생을 바꾸었다. 

 

He felt strong emotions from the music.

그는 그 음악에서 강렬한 감정을 느꼈다. 

 

Then they became colors before his eyes!

그러더니 그 감정은 그의 눈앞에서 색채가 되었다! 

 

He wanted to express them on a canvas.

그는 그 색채를 캔버스 위에 표현하고 싶었다. 

 

So Wassily Kandinsky started to paint in his own way.

그래서 바실리 칸딘스키는 자기만의 방식으로 그림을 그리기 시작했다. 

 

He didn't try to paint real objects.

그는 실제 사물을 그리려고 하지 않았다. 

 

Instead, he expressed emotions with different colors.

대신, 그는 각각 다른 색으로 감정을 표현했다. 

 

He used yellow to express warm and exciting feelings and blue to show deep and serious feelings.

그는 따뜻하고 신나는 느낌을 표현하기 위해서 노란색을 사용하였고, 깊고 진지한 감정을 드러내기 위해서는 파란색을 사용하였다. 

 

To him, each color showed a different emotion.

그에게 각각의 색깔은 서로 다른 감정을 나타냈다.

 

He also used colors to express the sounds of musical instruments.

그는 또한 악기의 소리를 표현하기 위해서 색깔을 사용하였다. 

 

Yellow was the trumpet, and blue was the cello.

노란색은 트럼펫, 파란색은 첼로였다. 

 

In this way, he matched colors and music.

이러한 방식으로, 그는 색깔과 음악을 연결하였다. 

 

Painting a picture was like making a song to him.

그림을 그리는 것은 그에게 노래를 만드는 것과 같았다.

They are more than colors and shapes.

그 그림들은 색깔과 형태 그 이상이다.
