The Doughnuts

Homer’s uncle, Bob, had a doughnut shop.

Homer의 삼촌인 Bob은 도넛 가게를 운영했다.

 

Uncle Bob liked machines, so the shop was full of cooking machines.

Bob 삼촌은 기계를 좋아해서, 가게는 요리 기계들로 가득 차 있었다.

 

One day, Homer visited Uncle Bob’s shop.

어느 날, Homer가 Bob 삼촌의 가게를 방문했다.

 

Homer: Hello, Uncle Bob!

Homer: 안녕하세요, Bob 삼촌!

 

Bob: Hi, Homer. Nice to see you. Look at this new doughnut machine. Isn’t it great?

Bob: 안녕, Homer. 널 보니 반갑구나. 이 새 도넛 기계 좀 봐. 멋지지 않니?

 

Bob: Homer, I need to go back home for a while. Can you watch the shop for me and make some doughnuts?

Bob: Homer, 내가 잠시 집에 다시 가 봐야 해. 나 대신 가게를 봐 주고 도넛을 좀 만들어 주겠니?

 

Homer: OK, I’ll try, but ....

Homer: 네, 해 볼게요, 그런데‧‧‧.

 

Bob: It’s easy to do. First, make the doughnut batter and put it in the machine.

Bob: 하기 쉽단다. 먼저, 도넛 반죽을 만들고 그것을 기계에 넣으렴.

 

Then just start the machine. Here’s the recipe.

그런 다음에 기계를 작동하기만 하면 돼. 여기 요리법이 있어.

 

Homer: I can do that. Don’t worry.

Homer: 그건 할 수 있어요. 걱정하지 마세요.

 

After Uncle Bob left, a big car stopped in front of the shop, and a lady stepped out.

Bob 삼촌이 떠난 후, 큰 차 한 대가 가게 앞에 섰고, 한 귀부인이 내렸다.

 

Lady: Can I have some doughnuts and a coffee?

Lady: 도넛과 커피 한 잔 주시겠어요?

 

Homer: I’m sorry, but the doughnuts aren’t ready.

Homer: 죄송하지만, 도넛이 준비가 안 됐어요.

 

Lady: Are you making the doughnut batter now?

Lady: 지금 도넛 반죽을 만들고 있는 거니?

 

Homer: Yes, but this is my first time.

Homer: 네, 하지만 처음 만들어 보는 거예요.

 

The lady took off her coat and her big diamond ring.

귀부인은 외투를 벗고 커다란 다이아몬드 반지를 뺐다.

 

She started to mix the batter.

그녀는 반죽을 섞기 시작했다.

 

Lady: I can help you. I can make delicious doughnuts.

Lady: 내가 도와줄게. 나는 맛있는 도넛을 만들 수 있단다.

 

Homer: Uh, OK.

Homer: 어, 좋아요.

 

Homer: This is a lot of batter.

Homer: 정말 반죽이 많군요.

 

Lady: Just wait and see. The doughnuts will taste great.

Lady: 그냥 기다려 보렴. 도넛이 아주 맛있을 거야.

 

Homer turned on the doughnut machine.

Homer는 도넛 기계를 켰다.

 

Rings of batter started dropping into the hot oil.

고리 모양의 반죽들이 뜨거운 기름 속으로 떨어지기 시작했다.

 

Lady: You try the first doughnut. Here.

Lady: 첫 번째 도넛을 맛보렴. 여기 있어.

 

Homer: Wow! It’s really delicious

Homer: 와! 정말 맛있네요!

 

Lady: I have to go now. This was so much fun! Good-bye!

Lady: 난 이제 가 봐야 해. 정말 재미있었어! 잘 있으렴!

 

Homer: Thank you for helping me. Good-bye!

Homer: 도와주셔서 감사해요. 안녕히 가세요!

 

Homer had enough doughnuts, so he pushed the stop button, but nothing happened.

Homer는 도넛이 충분하게 있어서 정지 버튼을 눌렀지만, 아무 일도 일어나지 않았다.

 

The doughnuts kept coming out of the machine.

도넛이 계속해서 기계에서 나왔다.

 

Homer: Hmm... What’s wrong? I think I should call Uncle Bob.

Homer: 흐음‧‧‧ 뭐가 잘못된 거지? Bob 삼촌에게 전화를 해야겠어.

 

The shop was now full of doughnuts.

가게는 이제 도넛으로 가득 찼다.

 

Homer piled the doughnuts on the counter.

Homer는 도넛들을 계산대 위에 쌓아 올렸다.

 

Homer: Uncle Bob! Please come back right away.

Homer: Bob 삼촌! 지금 당장 돌아와 주세요.

 

Something’s wrong with the doughnut machine.

도넛 기계에 이상이 있어요.

 

Bob: Oh, no! How can we sell all these doughnuts?

Bob: 아, 이런! 우리가 이 도넛들을 모두 어떻게 팔지?

 

Just then the lady came back to the shop.

바로 그때 귀부인이 가게로 돌아왔다.

 

Lady: I lost my diamond ring. I think I left it on the counter.

Lady: 내 다이아몬드 반지를 잃어버렸어. 내 생각엔 계산대 위에 그것을 놓아둔 것 같은데.

 

Homer: Oh, I remember. You took it off before you started to mix the batter.

Homer: 아, 기억나요. 반죽 섞기를 시작하기 전에 그것을 빼셨어요.

 

Everyone looked for the diamond ring, but they couldn’t find it.

모두가 다이아몬드 반지를 찾았지만, 찾을 수 없었다.

 

Homer: I can’t find it.

Homer: 저는 못 찾겠어요.

 

Lady: I’ll give a reward of one hundred dollars to the person who finds that ring!

Lady: 그 반지를 찾는 사람에게 100달러의 보상금을 드릴게요!

 

Homer: I know! The ring fell into the batter.

Homer: 알겠어요! 그 반지는 반죽 속으로 떨어졌어요.

 

I’m sure it’s inside one of these doughnuts!

반지는 분명히 이 도넛들 중 하나 안에 있어요!

 

Lady: You’re right!

Lady: 네 말이 맞아!

 

Bob: Oh, no! Now we have to break up all of these doughnuts to find the ring.

Bob: 아, 안 돼! 이제 우리는 반지를 찾기 위해 이 도넛들을 모두 쪼개야 해요.

 

Homer: Don’t worry, Uncle. I have an idea.

Homer: 걱정하지 마세요, 삼촌. 제게 아이디어가 있어요.

 

Homer took a piece of paper and made a sign.

Homer는 종이 한 장을 가져와 안내판을 만들었다.

 

He then put it in the shop’s window.

그러고 나서 그는 그것을 가게 창문에 붙였다.

 

Fresh Doughnuts

2 for 5 cents

$100 prize for finding a ring inside a doughnut

P.S. You have to give the ring back.

신선한 도넛

2개에 5센트

도넛 안에 있는 반지를 찾으면 100달러의 상금을 드려요.

추신. 반지를 돌려주셔야 합니다.

 

Then many people began to buy the doughnuts.

그러자 많은 사람들이 도넛을 사기 시작했다.

 

All of a sudden, a man shouted with excitement.

갑자기, 한 남자가 흥분해서 소리쳤다.

 

Man: I found it! I found the ring!

Man: 찾았어요! 내가 반지를 찾았어요!

 

Homer: See, my idea worked!

Homer: 보세요, 제 아이디어가 통했어요!

 

Lady: Here’s one hundred dollars!

Lady: 여기, 100달러예요!

 

In the end, everybody was happy.

결국에는 모두가 행복했다.

 

The man went home with one hundred dollars.

남자는 100달러를 가지고 집에 갔다.

 

The lady got her diamond ring back, and Uncle Bob sold lots of doughnuts.

귀부인은 다이아몬드 반지를 되찾았고, Bob 삼촌은 도넛을 많이 팔았다.

 

And, what about Homer?

그리고, Homer는 어떻게 됐을까?

 

He was happy that his idea worked so well

그는 자신의 아이디어가 아주 잘 통해서 행복했다!
