The Best New Thing

최고의 새로운 것

Rada lived on a little world, far out in space.

Rada는 먼 우주의 작은 세계에 살았다.

 

She lived there with her father, mother, and brother Jonny.

그녀는 아빠와 엄마, 그리고 남동생 Jonny와 함께 그곳에 살았다.

 

Rada’s father and other people worked on spaceships.

Rada의 아빠와 다른 사람들은 우주선에서 일했다.

 

Only Rada and Jonny were children, and they were born in space.

Rada와 Jonny만 아이들이었고, 그들은 우주에서 태어났다.

 

One day, Dad told Rada and Jonny, “We’re going back to Earth tomorrow.”

어느 날, 아빠가 Rada와 Jonny에게 “우리는 내일 지구로 돌아갈 거야.”라고 말했다.

 

Rada and Jonny looked at Dad in surprise and floated towards him.

Rada와 Jonny는 깜짝 놀라 아빠를 바라보았고 그를 향해 둥둥 떠서 갔다.

 

Rada asked Dad, “What’s it like on Earth?”

Rada는 “지구는 어떤 곳인가요?”라고 아빠에게 물었다.

 

“Everything is different there.

“그곳에서는 모든 것이 다르단다.

 

For example, the sky is blue,” answered Dad.

예를 들어, 하늘이 파란색이지.”라고 아빠가 대답했다.

 

“I’ve never seen a blue sky,” said Jonny.

“전 한 번도 파란 하늘을 본 적이 없어요.”라고 Jonny가 말했다.

 

“The sky is always black here,” said Rada.

“여기는 하늘이 항상 검은색이잖아요.”라고 Rada가 말했다.

 

“You don’t have to wear your big heavy space suits because there is air everywhere.

“그곳에는 어디에나 공기가 있기 때문에 크고 무거운 우주복을 입을 필요가 없단다.

 

It’s also hard to jump there because Earth pulls you down,” said Dad.

또한 지구가 너희를 끌어당기기 때문에 그곳에서는 점프하는 것도 어렵단다.”라고 아빠가 말했다.

 

 

“What else?” asked Rada.

“그 밖에 또 뭐가 있어요?”라고 Rada가 물었다.

 

“There are hills, and they are covered with soft green grass.

“언덕들이 있는데 부드러운 초록색 잔디로 뒤덮여 있단다.

 

You can roll down the hills,” answered Mom.

언덕을 굴러 내려갈 수도 있어.”라고 엄마가 대답했다.

 

“Dad, have you ever rolled down a hill?” asked Rada.

“아빠, 언덕을 굴러 내려가 보신 적 있어요?”라고 Rada가 물었다.

 

“Yes, it’s really amazing!” answered Dad.

“그래, 정말 굉장해!”라고 아빠가 대답했다.

 

Jonny was thirsty, so he opened a milk container and shook it.

Jonny는 목이 말라서 우유 용기를 열어 그것을 흔들었다.

 

The milk floated in the air and formed balls.

우유가 공기 중으로 떠서 방울을 형성했다.

 

Jonny swallowed the balls.

Jonny는 그 방울들을 삼켰다.

 

“Jonny, if you drink milk that way on Earth, you’ll get wet,” said Mom

“Jonny, 지구에서 그런 식으로 우유를 마시면 너는 젖을 거야.”라고 엄마가 말했다.

 

Later that night, Rada and Jonny talked a long time about Earth.

그날 밤 늦게, Rada와 Jonny는 지구에 대해 오랫동안 이야기했다.

 

It was exciting to think about all the new things they were going to see and do.

그들이 보고, 하게 될 모든 새로운 것들에 대해 생각하는 것은 흥미진진했다.

 

There was one new thing Rada and Jonny really wanted to do.

Rada와 Jonny가 정말로 하고 싶은 한 가지 새로운 것이 있었다.

 

They thought about it all night and didn’t tell Mom and Dad about it.

그들은 그것에 대해 밤새 생각했고 엄마와 아빠에게는 말하지 않았다.

 

It was their secret.

The next day, Rada’s family got on a spaceship.

“It’s going to be a long trip,” said Mom.

“That’s alright. I’m so excited!” said Rada.

“괜찮아요. 정말 신나요!”라고 Rada가 말했다.

 

The spaceship finally landed.

우주선이 마침내 착륙했다.

 

“Dad, it’s difficult to walk on Earth,” said Rada.

“아빠, 지구에서는 걷는 것이 어려워요.”라고 Rada가 말했다.

 

“I know. Earth is pulling you down,” said Dad.

“그래. 지구가 너를 끌어당기고 있거든.”라고 아빠가 말했다.

 

Rada and Jonny couldn’t float anymore.

Rada와 Jonny는 더 이상 떠다닐 수 없었다.

 

That was the first new thing.

그것이 첫 번째 새로운 것이었다.

 

“What’s that sound?” asked Rada.

“저건 무슨 소리죠?”라고 Rada가 물었다.

 

“A bird is singing,” said Mom.

“새가 노래하고 있어.”라고 엄마가 말했다.

 

“I’ve never heard a bird sing,” said Rada.

“저는 새가 노래하는 것을 들어 본 적이 전혀 없어요.”라고 Rada가 말했다.

 

“And I’ve never felt the wind,” said Jonny.

“그리고 저는 바람을 느껴 본 적도 전혀 없어요.”라고 Jonny가 말했다.

 

These were all new things.

이러한 것들이 모두 새로운 것들이었다.

 

Rada and Jonny ran up the nearest hill.

Rada와 Jonny는 가장 가까운 언덕을 뛰어 올라갔다.

 

At the top, they looked at each other and laughed.

꼭대기에서, 그들은 서로를 쳐다보고 웃었다.

 

Then they lay down on the soft green grass and rolled down the hill.

그러고 나서 그들은 부드러운 초록 잔디에 누워서 언덕 아래로 굴러 내려갔다.

 

That was their secret!

그것이 그들의 비밀이었다!

 

“This is the best new thing of all!” shouted Rada and Jonny.

 “이것이 모든 것들 중에서 최고의 새로운 것이에요!”라고 Rada와 Jonny는 외쳤다.

 

And they ran up to the top of the hill again.

그리고 그들은 언덕 꼭대기로 다시 뛰어 올라갔다.
