Did you laugh when you saw the cartoon above?

위의 만화를 보고 웃었는가?

 

If so, the cartoonist was successful.

그랬다면 그 만화가는 성공했다.

 

Cartoonists are the people who make cartoons.

만화가들은 만화를 만드는 사람들이다.

 

They want to catch your interest, and usually, make you laugh with simple language and creative drawings.

그들은 여러분의 관심을 끌고, 대개는 간단한 말과 독창적인 그림으로 여러분을 웃게 하고 싶어 한다.

 

People have made cartoons for hundreds of years.

사람들은 수백 년 동안 만화를 만들어 왔다.

 

There are many types of cartoons, and they play different roles.

만화에는 많은 종류가 있으며, 그것들은 다양한 역할을 한다.

 

One form of cartoon is a picture with a few words.

만화의 한 형태로 몇 마디 말을 쓴 그림이 있다.

 

It is sometimes called a "gag cartoon."

In the 1990s, a new type of cartoon was developed.

1990년대에 새로운 형식의 만화가 개발되었다.

 

It is called a webtoon.

그건 웹툰이라고 불린다.

 

Webtoons are published online, so you can read them anytime, anywhere on your phone or computer.

웹툰은 온라인으로 출판되기 때문에 여러분이 휴대 전화나 컴퓨터로 언제 어디서나 볼 수 있다.

 

They are very popular, and some of them are even made into TV dramas or movies.

그것은 매우 인기가 있고, 그것들 가운데 일부는 심지어 텔레비전 드라마나 영화로 만들어지기도 한다.

 

New forms of cartoons may appear in the future.

미래에는 새로운 형태의 만화가 나타날지도 모른다.

 

They could be different and even more exciting than now, but one thing will remain the same: they will help us laugh, relax, and learn.
