The Two Brothers

두 형제

Two brothers went on a journey.

두 형제가 여정을 떠났다.

 

They found a rock in front of a forest.

그들은 숲 앞에서 바위를 발견했다.

 

It said, “Go into the forest and swim across the river.

거기에 쓰여 있었다. “숲에 들어가 강을 헤엄쳐 건너시오.

 

There you will find a bear and her cubs.

당신은 거기에서 곰과 새끼들을 발견할 것입니다.

 

Take the bear cubs and run up the mountain.

곰 새끼들을 데리고 산 위로 뛰어 올라가시오.

 

There you will find happiness.”

The younger brother said, “Let’s go and find happiness together.”

동생이 말했다. “함께 가서 행복을 찾자.”

 

“No,” said the older brother, “How can we know this is true?

“싫어.”라고 형은 말했다. “이것이 사실인지를 우리가 어떻게 알 수 있어?

 

What if the river is too wide?

강이 너무 넓으면 어쩌지?

 

Besides, will it be easy to take the cubs away from their mother?

Instead of finding happiness, we can be killed!”

The younger brother replied, “How can we know if we don’t try?”

They separated, and they both went their own way.

The younger brother went into the forest and swam across the river.

There was the bear. She was sleeping.

He took her cubs and ran up the mountain.

그는 새끼들을 데리고 산을 뛰어 올라갔다.

 

When he reached the top, some people took him to their city and made him their king.

그가 정상에 도착했을 때, 어떤 사람들이 그를 자기들 도시로 데려가서 그들의 왕으로 만들었다.

 

There he lived as a king for five years.

그곳에서 그는 5년간 왕으로 살았다.

 

Then a war broke out, and he lost his throne.

He was on the road again.

One day, the two brothers met again and talked about their lives for the last five years.

The older brother said, “I was right. I have lived quietly and well.

The younger brother answered, “I don’t regret my choice.
