식탁 공화국의 친구들

Spork, Chopsticks, Knork, Barehands, and Ms. Disher are close friends in the Dining Republic.

Spork와 Chopsticks, Knork, Barehands, Disher 부인은 식탁 공화국의 친구들입니다.

 

Spork, Chopsticks, Knork, and Barehands travel a lot with their families, but Ms. Disher’s family does not travel much.

Spork와 Chopsticks, Knork, Barehands는 가족들과 여행을 많이 다니지만, Disher 부인의 가족은 여행을 자주 다니지 않습니다.

 

She makes up for this by hosting a dinner for her friends coming back from their trips.

그녀는 대신 여행에서 돌아온 친구들을 위해 저녁을 대접합니다.

 

She is always eager to listen to their adventures.

그녀는 항상 친구들의 모험담을 듣고 싶어 합니다.

 

They often talk about what they learned from their recent trips.

그들은 최근 여행에서 배운 것에 대해 자주 이야기합니다.

 

The most recent topic was about the best way to eat and Ms. Disher’s guests began to argue.

최근의 대화 주제는 음식을 먹는 최선의 방법에 관한 것이었고, Disher 부인의 손님들은 논쟁을 하기 시작했습니다.

 

Spork: On a recent trip, I have found that it is best to use a spoon and fork.

Spork: 최근 여행에서, 나는 숟가락과 포크가 함께 달려 있는 것을 사용하는 것이 제일 좋다는 것을 알았어.

 

A spoon is best for grains and soup, and a fork is good for eating meat.

숟가락은 곡물이나 국을 먹기에 최고이고, 포크는 고기를 먹기에 좋지.

 

Knork: No! It is much better to use a knife and a fork instead.

Knork: 아니야! 나이프와 포크를 사용하는 것이 훨씬 더 좋아.

 

Don’t you think it is easier for you to hold a fork in one hand and a knife in the other?

한 손엔 포크를 다른 손에 나이프를 드는 것이 더 쉽지 않겠니?

 

What can be more elegant than using them to cut meat on a plate!

우아하기로 치면 그걸 사용해서 접시 위의 고기를 써는 것에 비할 것이 없지!

 

Chopsticks: Why do you use two different kinds of utensils when you can use two of the same utensil?

Chopsticks: 같은 도구 두 개를 쓸 수 있는데 왜 두 종류의 다른 도구를 사용할까?

 

Plus, you can use chopsticks with just one hand!

게다가 젓가락은 한 손으로도 사용할 수 있어!

 

Barehands: No way! When I eat with my hands, of course I can see and smell the food, but I can also touch it.

Barehands: 천만의 말씀! 내가 손으로 음식을 먹으면 당연히 보면서 음식 냄새도 맡을 수 있지만, 음식을 만져 볼 수도 있어.

 

Because I use my sense of touch when I eat, I get to enjoy my food more.

음식을 먹을 때 촉각을 사용하기 때문에 음식을 더 즐길 수 있어.

 

They raised and argued many points, and nobody wanted to give up.

그들은 다양한 의견을 내세우면서 논쟁을 했지만, 아무도 포기하기를 원하지 않았습니다.

 

It was not easy for their host, Ms. Disher, to listen to their arguments patiently.

음식을 대접하는 Disher 부인이 친구들의 논쟁을 인내심을 가지고 듣고 있기는 쉽지 않았습니다.

 

So, she hurriedly, yet quietly, left.

그래서 그녀는 서둘러서 조용히 그 자리를 떴습니다.

 

Spork: Where is Ms. Disher? She has disappeared.

Spork: Disher 부인은 어디 있지? 그녀가 사라졌어.

 

Knork: What should we do? Without Ms. Disher, this dinner is not complete.

Knork: 어떡하지? Disher 부인이 없으면, 이 만찬이 무의미한데.

 

Chopsticks: Where did she go?

Chopsticks: 그녀는 어디 갔을까?

 

Barehands: Let’s go out to find her!

Barehands: 나가서 그녀를 찾아보자!

 

After hours of searching all over the Dining Republic, they finally found Ms. Disher sitting under a huge tree.

몇 시간 동안 식탁 공화국을 구석구석 뒤진 끝에, 친구들은 마침내 큰 나무 밑에 앉아 있는 Disher 부인을 찾았습니다.

 

Spork, Knork, Chopsticks, Barehands: We’re sorry we became boastful and ignored you.

Spork, Knork, Chopsticks, Barehands: 우리가 자랑만하고 너를 무시해서 미안해.

 

Please forgive us and come back and join us.

우리를 용서하고 돌아와서 우리와 함께 있어 줘. 

 

Ms. Disher: It’s okay. I forgive you. Let’s go back to my home.

Ms. Disher: 알았어. 용서할게. 우리 집으로 돌아가자.

 

Since then, every time they meet, they allow one another to eat in the manner that they please.

그 이후, 그들은 만날 때마다 각자 자기가 좋아하는 방식으로 음식을 먹는 것을 받아들입니다.

 

In their hearts they now know that food will always be delicious regardless of which utensils they use to eat it.

마음속으로 친구들은 이제 음식을 먹는데 어떤 도구를 사용하여 먹는지에 상관없이 음식은 언제나 맛있을 거라는 것을 알게 되었습니다.
