Anansi와 Turtle

Once there was a spider.

옛날에 거미 한 마리가 있었다.

 

His name was Anansi.

그의 이름은 Anansi였다.

 

One day, when Anansi started eating a delicious meal, he heard a knock.

어느 날, Anansi가 맛있는 음식을 먹기 시작할 무렵, 노크 소리를 들었다.

 

 

 

 

Turtle: Knock! Knock! Knock!

Turtle: (똑! 똑! 똑!)

 

Anansi: Who is it?

Anansi: 누구세요?

 

Turtle: It’s me, Turtle! Can I come in?

Turtle: 나야, Turtle! 들어가도 될까?

 

I walked all day. I’m so hungry!

난 온종일 걸었어. 너무 배고파!

 

Anansi: Sure. Walking all day sounds tiring. Have a seat.

Anansi: 물론이지. 온종일 걷는 것은 피곤할 것 같아. 자리에 앉아.

 

Turtle: Thanks. Can you give me some food?

Turtle: 고마워. 음식 좀 줄 수 있겠어?

 

Anansi had the most food in the village, but he didn’t want to share it.

Anansi는 그 마을에서 가장 많은 음식을 가지고 있었지만, 그것을 나눠 주고 싶지 않았다.

 

He was very greedy.

그는 아주 욕심이 많았다.

 

So, he had an idea.

그래서 그는 한 가지 꾀를 내었다.

 

Anansi: But first, you should wash your hands.

Anansi: 하지만 먼저, 너는 손을 씻어야 해.

 

Turtle: Oh, sorry! I’ll come back.

Turtle: 아, 미안해! 갔다 올게.

 

Turtle came back from the river.

Turtle이 강으로부터 돌아왔다.

 

But his hands were dirty again.

그러나 그의 손은 또 더러워졌다.

 

Anansi: I’m sorry, but you can’t sit down. Will you wash them again?

Anansi: 미안한데, 넌 앉을 수 없어. 손을 다시 씻을래?

 

Turtle went to the river once more and came back. But there was no food.

Turtle은 한 번 더 강으로 갔다가 돌아왔다. 하지만 음식이 없었다.

 

Anansi: The food got cold, so I had to keep eating. Sorry!

Anansi: 음식이 차가워져서 내가 계속 먹어야만 했어. 미안해!

 

Turtle: Oh, that’s okay.

Turtle: 아, 괜찮아.

 

(I hope Anansi will learn an important lesson someday.)

(Anansi가 언젠가 중요한 교훈을 깨닫기를 바라.)

 

A few days later, Turtle invited Anansi to dinner.

며칠 후, Turtle이 Anansi를 저녁 식사에 초대했다.

 

(Come to my house and let’s eat together.)

(우리 집에 와서 함께 식사하자.)

 

Turtle: Welcome!

Turtle: 환영해!

 

 

 

 

Turtle showed Anansi his dinner table, but it was under the water.

Turtle이 Anansi에게 자신의 저녁 식사를 보여 줬으나, 그것은 물 밑에 있었다.

 

Anansi couldn’t get down to the table because he was lighter than water.

Anansi는 물보다 가벼워서 식탁으로 내려갈 수 없었다.

 

Turtle: Let’s have this delicious meal together!

Turtle: 우리 이 맛있는 식사를 함께 먹자!

 

After a while, Anansi came up with a great idea.

잠시 후, Anansi는 좋은 생각 하나를 떠올렸다.

 

Anansi: Aha! Stones are heavier than water.

Anansi: 아하! 돌들은 물보다 더 무겁지.

 

I can fill my coat pockets with small stones.

나는 외투 주머니를 작은 돌들로 채울 수 있어.

 

It’ll make me heavier.

그것이 나를 더 무겁게 해 줄 거야.

 

Anansi started putting some small stones into his pockets.

Anansi는 그의 주머니에 작은 돌들을 넣기 시작했다.

 

Finally, Anansi sat at the table.

마침내, Anansi는 식탁에 앉았다.

 

Turtle: I’m sorry, but you can’t wear a coat at the table.

Turtle: 미안하지만, 식탁에서는 외투를 입을 수 없어.

 

Anansi: Oh, I didn’t know that! I’ll take it off.

Anansi: 아, 내가 몰랐네! 외투를 벗을게.

 

Just then, he came up, and his head was out of the water.

바로 그때, 그는 위로 떠올라 머리가 물 밖으로 나왔다.

 

Anansi: Oh, no

Anansi: 아, 안 돼!
