아버지와 아들

❶ Like son, Like Father

그 아들에 그 아버지

Mother: Dinner’s ready. Can you go and get Tim?

엄마: 저녁이 준비되었어요. 가서 Tim을 데리고 와 줄래요?

 

Father: Tim, dinner’s ready.

아빠: Tim, 저녁이 다 됐다.

 

Tim is busy reading a book.

Tim은 책을 읽느라 바쁘다.

 

Father: Oh, this looks interesting.

아빠: 오 이것 재미있어 보이는데.

 

Mother: Wait, where’s your father now?

엄마: 잠깐, 지금 아빠가 어디 계시지?

 

Mother: What’s he doing? Can you go and get your father?

엄마: 아빠는 뭐 하고 계시니? 가서 아빠 좀 모시고 올래?

 

Tim’s father is now busy reading the book.

Tim의 아빠는 지금 그 책을 읽느라 바쁘다.

 

Father: Wow, this book is really interesting!

아빠: 와, 이 책 정말 재미있는데!

 

❷ At the Barber Shop

이발소에서

Tim always cries when the barber begins to cut his hair.

Tim은 이발사가 그의 머리를 자르기 시작할 때 항상 운다.

 

Father: Tim, I’ll show you something.

아빠: Tim, 내가 너에게 뭔가 보여 줄게.

 

The father does his best to get Tim’s attention.

아빠는 Tim의 관심을 끌기 위해서 최선을 다한다.

 

Father: Look over here, Tim!

아빠: 여기 봐, Tim!

 

The barber: Hahaha, you look really funny!

이발사: 하하하, 정말 재미있어 보이네요!

 

The barber: Oops, now he looks funny.

이발사: 이런, 이제 Tim이 재미있어 보이네.

 

❸ Skipping Stones

물수제비뜨기

Tim: Look, Daddy! I can skip stones. Can you do it, too?

Tim: 보세요, 아빠! 저 물수제비뜰 수 있어요. 아빠도 하실 수 있나요?

 

Tim: Wow, you’re better than I am!

Tim: 와, 아빠가 저보다 더 잘하시네요!

 

Tim: We only have one more stone.

Tim: 돌이 딱 하나 더 있어요.

 

Tim: I don’t want to go home, Dad.

Tim: 집에 돌아가고 싶지 않아요, 아빠.

 

The father gathers stones all night long.

아빠는 밤새 돌을 모은다.

 

Tim: Wow, I can’t wait to play! Thank you so much, Dad! You’re the best!

Tim: 와, 빨리 놀고 싶어요! 정말 감사해요, 아빠! 아빠가 최고예요!

 

❹ Special Dinner

특별한 저녁

Father: We’re going to have a special dinner tonight.

아빠: 우리는 오늘 밤에 특별한 저녁을 먹을 거야.

 

Father: Lobster’s really delicious, but cutting it can be difficult sometimes.

아빠: 바닷가재는 정말 맛있지만, 자르는 것이 가끔 힘들 수 있어.

 

Father: Why is it so hard?

아빠: 왜 이렇게 딱딱하지?

 

Tim: I’m hungry, Dad.

Tim: 배고파요, 아빠.

 

A server: How did you like it?

종업원: 음식이 어땠나요?

 

Father: ______________________________

아빠: _____________________________

 

Tim: I like hot dogs better than lobster, Dad.

Tim: 저는 바닷가재보다 핫도그가 더 좋아요, 아빠.

 

Father: Me, too!

아빠: 나도!

 

❺ Picking an Apple

사과 따기

Tim: Dad, I want that apple.

Tim: 아빠, 저는 저 사과를 원해요.

 

The father shakes the tree.

아빠는 나무를 흔든다.

 

Tim throws his dad’s walking stick at the apple.

Tim은 아빠의 지팡이를 사과에 던진다.

 

The apple is too high.

사과는 너무 높이 있다.

 

Father: O.K., I’ll try throwing my shoe, then.

아빠: 알았다, 그럼 내가 내 신발을 던져 볼게.

 

Father: Oh, no, my shoe! They give up and start to walk back home.

아빠: 오, 안 돼, 내 신발! 그들은 포기하고 집으로 걷기 시작한다.

 

Then, the apple falls.

그러자, 사과가 떨어진다.

 

❻ Walking the Dog

개 산책시키기

Father: Let’s take a walk in the park. You should walk your dog every day, Tim.

아빠: 공원에서 산책하자. 너는 너의 개를 매일 산책시켜야 해, Tim.

 

Tim: I know, Dad, but look at him. When he sees a tree, he does that all the time.

Tim: 알아요, 아빠, 그렇지만 그를 보세요. 그는 나무를 보면 항상 저래요.

 

Father: Oh, no. That’s not even a tree.

아빠: 오, 안 돼. 저것은 심지어 나무가 아니야.

 

Tim: See? He just won’t stop doing that!

Tim: 보셨죠? 그는 그냥 저렇게 하는 걸 멈추지 않을 거예요!

 

Tim: Now, we can all enjoy walking in the park.

Tim: 이제, 우리는 모두 공원에서 산책을 즐길 수 있어요.

 

❼ A Work of Art

예술 작품

Father: Oh, no. That’s your mom’s favorite carpet.

아빠: 오, 안 돼. 그건 네 엄마가 가장 좋아하는 카펫인데.

 

Father: I’ll have to clean it up before she sees it.

아빠: 엄마가 보기 전에 내가 치워야겠어.

 

Father: Now, what are you doing, Tim?

아빠: 이제는 또 뭐 하는 거니, Tim?

 

Father: Oh, that looks pretty good...

아빠: 오, 그거 꽤 좋아 보이는 걸⋯.

 

Tim: Why don’t you give it a try, too?

Tim: 아빠도 한 번 해 보시는 게 어때요?

 

Father: That sounds good.

아빠: 좋아.

 

Tim: Wow, this is our first work of art together! I’m sure Mom will like it, too!

Tim: 와, 이것은 우리가 함께 만든 첫 예술 작품이에요! 엄마도 분명히 좋아하실 거예요!
