My Speech Contest

나의 말하기 대회

Last Friday, Boram Middle School held a speech contest.

지난 금요일, 보람 중학교는 말하기 대회를 열었다. 

 

The theme was “My Future Dream.”

주제는 ‘나의 장래 희망’이었다. 

 

Here are the speeches of the two winners.

다음은 두 수상자의 발표문이다. 

 

I want to start my speech with a story about my dog.

저는 저희 개 이야기로 발표를 시작하고자 합니다. 

 

My dog, Bongja, had a problem.

저희 개, 봉자는 문제가 있었습니다. 

 

She was too greedy about food.

그녀는 식탐이 너무 많았습니다. 

 

She even ate food from the garbage.

심지어 쓰레기 음식을 먹기도 했습니다. 

 

So I got help from a dog trainer.

그래서 저는 애견 훈련사의 도움을 받았습니다. 

 

He watched Bongja and said, “Fill a big bowl with dog food and keep it filled all the time.”

애견 훈련사는 봉자를 관찰하더니 “큰 그릇을 개 사료로 채우고 항상 가득 찬 상태를 유지하세요.” 라고 말했습니다. 

 

Surprisingly, his idea worked!

놀랍게도, 그의 아이디어는 효과가 있었습니다! 

 

Now Bongja keeps calm in front of food.

이제 봉자는 음식 앞에서 침착합니다. 

 

“What’s the secret?” I asked.

저는 “비결이 무엇이죠?”라고 물었습니다. 

 

He answered, “There is always enough food for her.

훈련사는 “봉자를 위한 충분한 음식이 항상 있잖아요. 

 

So she isn’t greedy anymore.”

그래서 더 이상 욕심을 부리지 않는 거예요.”라고 말했습니다. 

 

From this experience, I became interested in dog training.

이 경험으로 저는 애견 훈련에 관심을 갖게 되었습니다. 

 

I want to be a dog trainer and help many dogs in trouble.

저는 애견 훈련사가 되어 어려움에 처한 많은 개를 도와주고 싶습니다.

Robots are rescuing people from a fire. Isn’t it cool?

로봇들이 화재 현장에서 사람들을 구조하고 있습니다. 멋지지 않나요? 

 

Someday I want to make rescue robots like these, and my robots will save people’s lives.

언젠가 저도 이와 같은 구조 로봇들을 만들고 싶고 제 로봇들은 사람들의 목숨을 구할 것입니다. 

 

My role model is Dr. Dennis Hong.

제 롤 모델은 데니스 홍 박사님입니다. 

 

He created a car for blind drivers.

그는 시각 장애인을 위한 차를 개발했습니다. 

 

He is now working on rescue robots.

지금 그는 구조 로봇을 연구하고 있습니다. 

 

I hope to be a robotics engineer like him.

저는 그와 같은 로봇 공학자가 되고 싶습니다. 

 

I’m studying math and science very hard.

저는 수학과 과학을 매우 열심히 공부하고 있습니다. 

 

I’m also studying online lessons about robotics.

저는 또한 로봇 공학에 관한 온라인 강의도 공부하고 있습니다. 

 

Making a robot will not be easy, but I won’t give up my dream.

로봇을 만드는 것은 쉽지 않겠지만 저는 제 꿈을 포기하지 않을 것입니다.
