Imagine you are in the middle of a great desert.

당신이 아주 큰 사막의 한가운데에 있다고 상상해 봐라.

 

The sands go on and on in every direction.

모래 언덕이 사방팔방으로 계속 이어진다.

 

The sun feels like a giant ball of fire.

태양은 거대한 불덩이 같다.

 

The hot wind burns your face and throat.

뜨거운 바람이 당신의 얼굴과 목구멍을 태운다.

 

You open your backpack to drink some water.

당신은 물을 좀 마시려고 가방을 연다.

 

Oh, no! You’re almost out of water.

오, 이런! 물이 거의 떨어져 간다.

 

You wet your throat with a drop of water and keep going.

Well, this is not a dream for the people who take part in the 4 Deserts Race.

글쎄, 이것은 ‘4 Deserts Race’에 참가하는 사람들에게 꿈이 아니다.

 

The 4 Deserts Race is a series of four races across the world’s toughest deserts.

 ‘4 Deserts Race’는 세계에서 가장 험한 사막들을 가로지르는 연속된 4개의 경주이다.

 

Each race is 250 kilometers long and takes seven days.

각 경주는 250킬로미터이고 7일이 걸린다.

 

The first race takes place in the Atacama Desert in Chile.

첫 번째 경주는 칠레에 있는 아타카마 사막에서 열린다.

 

It is the driest desert in the world.

그곳은 세계에서 가장 건조한 사막이다.

 

In fact, it hasn’t rained in some parts of the Atacama Desert for 400 years!

실제로 아타카마 사막의 어떤 곳에는 400년간 비가 내리지 않았다!

 

The next race goes to the Gobi Desert in China.

다음 경주는 중국에 있는 고비 사막으로 이어진다.

 

It is the windiest desert on earth.

The third race heads to the Sahara Desert in Egypt.

It is the hottest of the four deserts.

Temperatures can reach up to 50°C.

온도가 섭씨 50도까지 올라갈 수 있다.

 

Finally, the race travels to the coldest desert on earth, Antarctica.

마지막으로, 경주는 세상에서 가장 추운 사막인 남극 대륙으로 향한다.

 

If you throw boiling water into the air here, it freezes!

Only the greatest runners on the planet can take part in the 4 Deserts Race, right?
