한국 우주 기구(KSO)는 화성에 갈 사람들을 찾고 있습니다!

Mars, the Second Earth?

화성, 제2의 지구?

 

Although there are many books and movies about Mars, no one has been there yet.

화성에 관한 많은 책과 영화가 있긴 하지만, 화성에 가 본 사람은 아직 아무도 없다. 

 

These days, scientists are looking at Mars as a new home.

요즘, 과학자들은 화성을 새로운 거주지로 보고 있다. 

 

In fact, NASA and some companies are trying to send people there right now.

사실, NASA와 몇몇 회사들은 그곳에 사람들을 보내기 위해 바로 지금도 노력하고 있다. 

 

The big question is, “Can people live on Mars?”

중요한 질문은 ‘화성에서 사람들이 살 수 있는가?’이다. 

 

Many scientists believe so for several reasons.

많은 과학자들은 몇 가지 이유로 그렇게 믿는다. 

 

First, they think that there is water on Mars.

첫째, 그들은 화성에 물이 있다고 생각한다. 

 

This is great because water is necessary for all life.

물은 모든 생명체에 필수적이기 때문에 이것은 아주 중요하다. 

 

Second, Mars has hard land to build houses and buildings on.

둘째, 화성은 집과 건물을 지을 수 있는 단단한 땅을 가지고 있다. 

 

Third, the length of day and night on Mars is similar to that on Earth.

셋째, 화성의 낮과 밤의 길이는 지구의 낮과 밤의 길이와 비슷하다. 

 

In addition, Mars also has four seasons.

게다가, 화성에는 사계절도 있다. 

 

So, people can lead similar lives.

그래서, 사람들이 비슷한 생활을 할 수 있다. 

 

Lastly, Mars is not very far.

마지막으로, 화성은 그렇게 멀지 않다. 

 

It is the second closest planet to Earth.

화성은 지구에서 두 번째로 가까운 행성이다.

 

Mars, however, has some differences from Earth.

그러나 화성은 지구와 다른 점이 몇 가지 있다. 

 

First, Mars is about half the size of Earth.

첫째, 화성은 지구의 약 절반 크기이다. 

 

It is the second smallest planet in the solar system.

화성은 태양계에서 두 번째로 작은 행성이다. 

 

Second, a year on Mars is about twice as long as a year on Earth.

둘째, 화성에서의 일 년은 지구에서의 일 년의 약 두 배만큼 길다. 

 

Third, Mars is much colder than Earth. On average, it is about -60˚C on Mars.

셋째, 화성은 지구보다 훨씬 더 춥다. 평균적으로, 화성의 기온은 약 섭씨 영하 60도이다. 

 

This is because Mars is farther away from the Sun than Earth.

이것은 화성이 지구보다 태양에서 더 멀리 떨어져 있기 때문이다. 

 

Although no one can answer the big question right now, it is exciting to imagine this new world.

비록 누구도 그 중요한 질문에 지금 당장 답할 수는 없지만, 이 새로운 세상을 상상하는 것은 흥미진진하다.
