Picture the Future

미래를 상상하다

It’s 7 a.m. The bed shakes and Minji Kim yells, “Five more minutes!”

오전 7시이다. 침대가 흔들리고 김민지가 “5분만 더!"라고 소리를 지른다.

 

The bed stops shaking.

침대가 흔들기를 멈춘다.

 

Suddenly, Minji’s mom appears on a screen on the wall and says, “You’re going to be late for school!”

갑자기, 민지의 엄마가 벽 스크린에 나타나 말한다. “너 학교에 늦겠어!”

 

Minji rubs her eyes and says, “Clear the windows.”

민지는 눈을 비비며 “창문을 투명하게 해 줘."라고 말한다.

 

The dark windows become clear and the sun shines brightly through them.

어두운 창문이 투명해지며 창문으로 햇살이 밝게 비춘다.

 

In the bathroom, a red light scans Minji’s body.

욕실에서 빨간 빛이 민지의 몸을 정밀 검사한다.

 

A voice says, “54 kilograms. Your health condition is excellent.”

목소리가 "54킬로그램. 건강 상태가 매우 좋습니다."라고 말한다.

 

When she steps in the shower, water comes out from the top and sides.

그녀가 샤워실 안에 발을 디디자, 물이 위와 양옆에서 나온다.

 

After her shower, warm air comes out and dries her.

샤워 후에, 따뜻한 공기가 나와 그녀를 말려 준다.

 

When she gets out, a drawer opens with today’s clothes.

그녀가 나가자, 서랍이 열리며 오늘의 옷이 나타난다.

 

In the kitchen, her father says, “Good morning, Honey. What do you want for breakfast?”

부엌에서 민지의 아빠가 “좋은 아침이구나, 얘야. 아침으로 무엇을 먹고 싶니?"라고 말한다.

 

Minji says, “The usual, please.”

민지는 “늘 먹던 걸로 주세요.”라고 말한다.

 

Mr. Kim presses a few buttons on the cooking machine.

아빠가 요리 기계의 버튼 몇 개를 누른다.

 

The machine prints out some bacon, eggs and bread.

기계는 베이컨, 달걀, 빵을 만들어 낸다.

 

Mr. Kim says goodbye and rushes out the door.

아빠는 작별 인사를 하고 문 밖으로 급히 나간다.

 

A few minutes later, Minji’s father appears on a screen and shouts, “I forgot my glasses!”

몇 분 후에, 민지의 아빠가 스크린에 나타나 소리친다. “안경을 깜빡했어요!”

 

Ms. Kim smiles and answers, “No problem. I’ll send a drone to your office.”

민지의 엄마가 미소 지으며 답한다. “괜찮아요. 드론을 당신의 사무실로 보낼게요.”

 

Mr. Kim says, “Thanks a million!”

민지의 아빠가 “정말 고마워요!"라고 말한다.

 

Ms. Kim and Minji get into a driverless flying car.

민지의 엄마와 민지는 운전자가 필요 없는 비행 자동차에 탄다.

 

They sit in comfortable chairs around a table.

그들은 탁자 주변의 편안한 의자에 앉는다.

 

Ms. Kim touches the car window to select the groceries for this week.

민지의 엄마가 이번 주에 쓸 식료품을 고르기 위해 자동차 창문을 터치한다.

 

She pays for them by putting her finger on a sensor.

그녀는 센서에 손가락을 대서 식료품 값을 지불한다.

 

They will be delivered to her house.

식료품은 집으로 배달될 것이다.

 

The car lands at Minji’s school on top of a 150-story building.

자동차는 150층 빌딩의 꼭대기에 있는 민지의 학교에 내린다.

 

Today Minji will give a presentation with Dona, a student in America.

오늘 민지는 미국에 있는 학생 Dona와 함께 발표를 할 것이다.

 

But Minji doesn’t have to go to America.

하지만 민지가 미국에 갈 필요는 없다.

 

Thanks to a VR classroom, they will feel like they are in the same classroom.

VR(가상 현실) 교실 덕분에, 그들은 같은 교실에 있는 것처럼 느낄 것이다.

 

When Minji’s family comes back home, dinner is ready.

민지의 가족이 집에 돌아오자 저녁이 준비된다.

 

They eat and talk about their day.

그들은 식사를 하며 자신들의 하루에 관해 이야기한다.

 

After a delicious dinner, the cleaning robot clears the table and washes the dishes.

맛있는 저녁 식사 후에, 청소 로봇이 식탁을 치우고 설거지를 한다.

 

Minji says, “I learned a game called chess today. Do you want to play?”

민지가 “오늘 체스라고 불리는 놀이를 배웠어요. 해 보실래요?"라고 말한다.

 

Everyone agrees. A 3-D chess board appears on the table.

모두가 동의한다. 탁자 위에 삼차원 체스 판이 나타난다.

 

They have lots of fun.

그들은 즐거운 시간을 보낸다.

 

Right before Minji goes to bed, she whispers to her watch.

민지는 자러 가기 직전에, 자신의 손목시계에 속삭인다.

 

“Remind Daddy to take his glasses tomorrow.”

“아빠께 내일 안경을 가져가시라고 상기시켜 드려.”
