I am writing to let you know about an incident that occurred at our school this morning. At about 7:50 a.m., one of our fourth-grade students saw a raccoon in her classroom. The student did not touch it, but instead alerted the teacher. The teacher immediately told the students to leave the classroom and alerted our administration. One of our staff went to the room and caught the raccoon. It was sent to a wildlife preservation center. No student appeared to show any signs of trauma from the event and everyone returned to their classroom after the raccoon was removed. Instruction continued normally for the rest of the day. As the sun began to set, I realized I wasn’t going to make it to the Catskills as I hoped. I took out the map and decided to find a spot to camp. I found a free camping ground on top of a mountain called Mount Washington. I started to head toward the mountain. The drive to the mountain was getting tough. All the streets had no names. I was off the map in some tiny town just trying to find a nice piece of land to sleep on. There was a tall mountain in the distance; I figured that was Mount Washington, but every time I tried to get close to it, the road seemed to take me in the opposite direction of the mountain. Round and round I went trying to find a way to get to it, but somehow I was never able to make it across. I finally went back the way I came and ended up getting lost. A sigh came out from me. I couldn’t find the entrance to the mountain. My head was hanging with failure.
