마음이 이끄는 곳으로 가라

Hi everyone, I’d like to share with you one of my most memorable trips, which was a trip to the city of Granada, a city in the southern part of Spain.

안녕 여러분, 저는 가장 기억에 남는 저의 여행들 중 하나를 나누고 싶은데, 그 여행은 스페인 남부에 있는, 그라나다라는 도시로의 여행이었습니다. 

 

Granada is where a whole city was influenced by Arabic culture because of wars and interactions between Spanish and Arabic people a long time ago. 

그라나다는 오래 전 전쟁과 스페인 사람들, 아랍사람들 간의 상호 작용 때문에 도시 전체가 아랍 문화 영향을 받은 곳입니다. 

 

I decided to visit the Alhambra palace, which is one of the greatest architectural wonders of Spain.

저는 알함브라 궁전을 방문하기로 결정했는데, 그곳은 스페인의 가장 놀라운 건축물 중 하나입니다. 

 

People say this palace was left undamaged during wars because the beauty of the palace was astonishing.

사람들은 이 궁전의 아름다움이 믿기 힘들 정도로 놀라웠기 때문에 전쟁 중에도 훼손되지 않았다고 말합니다. 

 

In front of the palace, there was a beautiful garden called Generalife. 

궁전 앞에는, ‘헤네랄리페’라고 불리는 아름다운 정원이 있습니다. 

 

I was totally amazed by the incredible scenery.

저는 그 믿을 수 없는 풍경에 완전히 놀랐습니다. 

 

The fountains were running, and the pools reflected the beautiful flowers and trees in the garden.

분수대의 물이 흐르고 있었고, 정원의 아름다운 꽃과 나무들이 물웅덩이에 비춰졌습니다. 

 

Later I found out that water meant life and richness to Arabic people in the Middle Ages.

이후에 저는 물이 중세시대 아랍인들에게 삶과 풍요로움을 의미한다는 것을 알게 되었습니다. 

 

Their emphasis on water is expressed in the many water tunnels and fountains in the palace.

그들의 물에 대한 주안점은 궁전 내의 많은 물 터널과 분수대에 표현되어 있습니다. 

 

Next to the garden were the Nasrid Palaces, which I thought were the most beautiful palaces I had ever seen.

정원 옆에는 나스리드 궁전이 있었는데, 내가 본 것 중 가장 아름다운 궁전이라는 생각이 들었습니다. 

 

The rooms are delicately decorated with colorful works of art, wooden ceilings, and various patterns.

궁전의 방들은 다채로운 예술 작품들, 나무로 된 천장, 그리고 다양한 무늬로 정교하게 장식되어 있었습니다. 

 

After I finished the tour, I could understand why the palace wasn’t destroyed.

투어가 끝난 후에, 나는 그 궁전이 왜 훼손되지 않았는지 그 이유를 알 수 있었습니다. 

 

In Spain, it is an absolute must to visit the Alhambra palace!

스페인에서, 알함브라 궁전은 반드시 방문해야 합니다! 

 

I hope you will have a chance to go there.

여러분이 그곳에 갈 기회가 있길 바랍니다.

 

Chris: I’m planning to visit South America this summer vacation.

Chris: 나는 이번 여름 방학에 남아메리카를 방문할 계획이야. 

 

Since you’ve been there, where do you think I should go in South America?

네가 그곳에 가봤으니까 말인데, 남아메리카에서 어디를 가봐야 해? 

 

Grace: There are many places to see, but I recommend Iguazu Falls.

Grace: 구경할 곳이 많은데, 나는 이구아수 폭포를 추천해. 

 

They were why I decided to go to Brazil.

나는 그 폭포 때문에 브라질에 가기로 결정했어. 

 

I can’t describe their beauty in words.

그 폭포의 아름다움은 말로 표현할 수가 없어. 

 

You have to see them in person.

너는 그것을 직접 봐야 해. 

 

Chris: I’ve heard of Iguazu Falls.

Chris: 이구아수 폭포에 대해 들어봤어. 

 

Why do you think they are famous?

왜 그것이 유명하다고 생각하니? 

 

Grace: It’s because they are the tallest and largest falls in the world.

Grace: 왜냐하면 그 폭포가 세계에서 가장 길고 가장 큰 폭포이기 때문이야. 

 

Chris: Oh, I see. So, where exactly are they located?

Chris: 아, 그렇구나. 그러면, 정확히 어디에 위치해 있어? 

 

Grace: They are located on the border between Argentina and Brazil.

Grace: 그것은 아르헨티나와 브라질 사이의 국경에 위치해 있어. 

 

If you’re on the Brazilian side, you can take a helicopter or a boat to look around the falls.

만일 네가 브라질 쪽에 있다면, 헬리콥터나 배를 타고 폭포 주변을 볼 수 있어. 

 

Chris: What were you most impressed with?

Chris: 무엇이 가장 인상 깊었니? 

 

Grace: Definitely the Devil’s Throat.

Grace: 무조건 악마의 목구멍이지. 

 

It was as big and fantastic as the name sounds.

그것은 이름만큼이나 크고 환상적이었어. 

 

The sight of large waterfalls and gleaming rainbows was incredible.

큰 폭포들과 반짝이는 무지개의 광경은 믿을 수 없을 정도로 놀라웠어. 

 

Once you see this area, you will be totally amazed by its beauty.

일단 이 지역을 보면, 너는 그것의 아름다움에 완전히 놀랄 거야.

 

“Soccer” is used in the U.S.A. and Canada, but “football” is used in most countries around the world.

“soccer”는 미국과 캐나다에서 사용되지만 전 세계적으로는 “football”이 사용된다. 

 

Chris: I can’t wait to go there.

Chris: 정말 거기에 가고 싶다. 

 

Where else did you go?

또 어디에 갔어? 

 

Grace: Since I am a huge fan of football, São Paulo was a must-visit city.

Grace: 내가 축구의 열렬한 팬이기 때문에, 상파울로는 반드시 방문해야 하는 도시였어. 

 

It was like the entire city went on vacation during big matches.

큰 경기가 열리는 기간은 도시 전체가 휴가철이 된 것 같았어. 

 

There is even a football museum in São Paulo.

상파울로에는 심지어 축구 박물관이 있어. 

 

This shows Brazilians’ great passion for football.

이것이 브라질 사람들의 축구에 대한 엄청난 열정을 보여주고 있지. 

 

Chris: A football museum? That’s awesome!

Chris: 축구 박물관이라고? 멋지다! 

 

No wonder so many internationally famous football legends, like Pele, Ronaldo, and Ronaldinho, are Brazilians.

펠레, 호나우두, 호나우지뉴와 같은 국제적으로 유명한 축구 전설들이 브라질 사람들인 것이 당연하네. 

 

Grace: I know. This museum exhibits interesting things like some of the footballs used in the World Cup matches, pictures, and video of historical football matches.

Grace: 맞아. 이 박물관은 월드컵 경기에 사용된 몇몇의 축구공들, 사진, 그리고 역사적인 축구 경기들의 영상과 같은 흥미로운 것들을 전시해. 

 

There’s even a whole room which is filled with the history of Brazilian football.

심지어 브라질 축구 역사로만 가득 찬 방이 있어. 

 

Chris: It sounds like Brazil is the perfect place to absorb the beauty of nature and the passion of football fans. I’m already excited!

Chris: 브라질은 자연의 아름다움과 축구 팬들의 열정을 흡수할 완벽한 곳인 것 같네. 벌써 신나! 

 

Grace: Yes, Brazil is a great place. I hope you enjoy yourself there.

Grace: 응, 브라질은 멋진 곳이야. 네가 그곳에서 즐거웠으면 좋겠어.

 

My family’s trip across Australia is going well.

호주에서의 우리 가족 여행은 잘 진행되고 있다. 

 

The land is very big, so we have experienced four seasons in just a week!

땅이 매우 커서, 우리는 단 한 주 만에 사계절을 겪었다! 

 

This week, we felt very cold on snowy Blue Mountain, and I enjoyed a nice warm walk along the Sunshine Coast.

이번 주, 눈 내리는 블루 마운틴에서 우리는 매우 추웠고, 나는 선샤인 해안을 따라 기분 좋은 따뜻한 산책을 했다. 

 

And now we are sweating in Kakadu National Park, which is located in the north area of Australia.

그리고 지금 우리는 카카두 국립공원에서 땀을 흘리고 있는데, 이곳은 호주의 북부 지역에 위치해 있다. 

 

Kakadu National Park is a home to thousands of animals.

카카두 국립공원은 수천 마리의 동물들의 서식지이다. 

 

We spent two days in the park.

우리는 그 공원에서 이틀을 지냈다. 

 

On the first day of our trip, we took a little cruise.

여행의 첫째 날에, 우리는 소규모의 유람선 여행을 떠났다. 

 

It was a cruise on Yellow Water, which has a variety of wild animals, dramatic scenery, and ever-changing landscapes.

그것은 옐로우 워터 강에서의 항해였는데, 옐로우 워터에는 다양한 야생 동물들, 인상적인 경치와 변화무쌍한 풍경이 있었다. 

 

We spotted more than twenty different species of birds and wild crocodiles in the river.

우리는 강가에서 20종 이상의 다양한 종류의 새와 야생 악어를 발견했다. 

 

Until this trip, I had only seen crocodiles in the zoo, so the sight of wild crocodiles made my jaw drop.

이 여행 전까지는 동물원에서만 악어를 봤었기 때문에 야생 악어의 광경은 내 입이 떡 벌어지게 만들었다. 

 

The second day at Kakadu National Park was all about exploring Aboriginal rock art.

카카두 국립공원에서의 둘째 날은 호주 원주민의 암각화에 대한 모든 것을 탐험하는 것이었다. 

 

The paintings of animals provide a fascinating record of Aboriginal life over thousands of years.

그 동물 그림들은 수천 년에 이르는 호주 원주민의 삶의 흥미진진한 기록을 제공한다. 

 

Our guide told us that some of the oldest rock arts might be as much as 40,000 years old.

우리의 가이드는 가장 오래된 암각화 몇몇 점은 40,000년 전에 그려진 것이라고 말했다. 

 

We were impressed by the well preserved rock paintings.

우리는 잘 보존된 그 암각화들에 감명 받았다. 

 

Also, some Aboriginals are still living in Kakadu and have kept their cultural traditions.

또한, 몇몇의 호주 원주민들은 아직도 카카두에 살고 있고 그들의 문화적 전통을 유지해오고 있다. 

 

After the trip, I learned to appreciate the beauty of nature and old traditions.

여행 후에, 나는 자연과 옛 전통의 아름다움의 진가를 알게 되었다. 

 

Our next destination is Canberra, the capital city of Australia.

우리의 다음 목적지는 호주의 수도인 캔버라이다.
