Empathy is the ability to step into other people’s shoes and to seek to understand their feelings and how they see the world.

감정이입은 타인의 입장에서 그들의 감정과 세상을 보는 방법을 이해하고자 노력하는 능력이다. 

 

It is also empathy that we need to activate if we really wish to learn another language to the highest level.

만일 우리가 다른 언어를 최고의 수준으로 배우기를 간절히 원한다면 우리가 활성화시켜야 하는 것 또한 감정이입이다. 

 

Here are three habits of highly empathetic people who are successful language learners!

여기 매우 감정이입적이며 따라서 성공적인 언어 학습자인 사람들의 세 가지 습관이 있다.

 

1. Highly empathetic people challenge their own bias by searching for what they share with people rather than what divides them.

1. 매우 감정이입적인 사람들은 타인과 자신을 구분 짓게 하는 것보다는 공유하는 것을 찾음으로써 자신의 편견에 도전한다. 

 

This makes them want to talk to all kinds of people, a key requirement for someone who wants to learn another language.

이것은 다른 언어를 배우고자 하는 사람에게 중요한 필요조건으로, 모든 부류의 사람들과 이야기하고 싶게끔 만든다. 

 

2. Highly empathetic people are willing to interact with others, putting into practice the proverb, “Never criticize a person until you have walked a mile in his or her shoes.”

2. 매우 감정이입적인 사람들은 “한번이라도 타인의 입장이 되어보지 않았다면 그 사람을 비판하지 말라”라는 속담을 실행하며 기꺼이 타인과 상호작용하고자 한다. 

 

This is an important factor in language learning.

이것은 언어 학습에 있어서 중요한 요소이다. 

 

3. An empathetic conversationalist can master the art of listening.

3. 감정이입적이며 이야기를 잘하는 사람은 듣기 기술을 숙달할 수 있다. 

 

An empathetic listener listens carefully to others and does all he or she can to get behind the words they are using and sense their emotional state and needs.

감정이입적인 청자는 타인의 말에 주의를 기울여 듣고 그들의 감정 상태와 요구를 감지하기 위해 그들이 사용하는 말속의 의미를 최선을 다하여 파악한다.

 

In the end, while there are many factors involved in language learning, empathy is one of the crucial factors that will make the journey even quicker.

결국, 언어학습에 관련된 많은 요소들이 있겠지만, 감정이입은 그와 같은 언어학습의 여정을 훨씬 빠르게 만들 중요한 요소들 중 하나이다.
