The Princess from India

인도에서 온 공주

A long time ago, the king of India had a dream.

옛날에, 인도의 왕이 꿈을 꾸었다.

 

In his dream, a god appeared and said, “Your daughter will marry the king of Gaya, a kingdom in the Far East. Send her to Gaya.”

그의 꿈에서, 신이 나타나 말했다. “네 딸은 극동에 있는 한 왕국인 가야의 왕과 결혼할 것이다. 그녀를 가야로 보내거라.”

 

The king believed the god’s words and said to his daughter, “Go and marry the man of your destiny.”

왕은 신의 말을 믿었고, 그의 딸에게 말했다. “가서 너의 운명의 남자와 결혼하거라.”

 

The princess got on a boat with her servants and set off for Gaya.

공주는 하인들과 배를 타고 가야로 출발했다.

 

However, the waves were high, and heavy rain poured down.

그러나 파도가 높았고, 폭우가 쏟아졌다.

 

The boat came back.

배가 되돌아왔다.

 

The king placed a set of magical stones on the boat.

왕이 배에 한 세트의 신비한 돌들(파사 석탑)을 올려놓았다.

 

The ocean calmed down right away!

바다는 곧바로 잠잠해졌다!

 

Far away in Gaya, people were worried about their king.

멀리 가야에서는, 사람들이 그들의 왕에 대해 걱정했다.

 

The king was at the age of marriage.

왕은 혼인할 나이였다.

 

His servants said, “We will find a wife for you.”

그의 신하들이 말했다. “신들이 전하의 짝을 찾아드리겠습니다.”

 

“Do not worry,” the king said.

“걱정하지 마시오.” 왕이 말했다.

 

“My future wife will arrive soon. Go to the shore, and wait for her.”

“내 미래의 부인은 곧 도착할 것이오. 해안으로 가서 그녀를 기다리시오.”

 

The servants went to the shore.

신하들은 해안으로 갔다.

 

A young lady and her servants arrived on a boat.

한 젊은 여인과 그녀의 하인들이 배를 타고 도착했다.

 

The king was right!

왕이 옳았다!

 

The lady looked beautiful and graceful.

그 여인은 아름답고 우아해 보였다.

 

“I am a princess from India,” the lady said.

“저는 인도에서 온 공주입니다.” 여인이 말했다.

 

“Welcome, my queen,” the king greeted the princess warmly.

“어서 오시오, 나의 왕비.” 왕은 공주를 따뜻하게 맞이했다.

 

“I am King Kim Suro.”

“나는 김수로왕이오.”

 

They fell in love at first sight.

그들은 첫눈에 사랑에 빠졌다.

 

The king and the princess soon got married.

왕과 공주는 곧 결혼했다.

 

They had ten sons and two daughters and lived happily ever after.

그들은 열 명의 아들과 두 딸을 낳았고 그 후로 쭉 행복하게 살았다.
